Flower Work Day with Helianthus Floral | Style with Ash | Reno, NV

So when I first went full time doing photography, I remember I wrote in a post “If I’m not a part-time florist by next year, I am doing something wrong.” And next year would be December of this year, and while I am not a part time florist and have no intention of being one at this point, I freaking love working with flowers. 

Whether it is for a wedding, a styled shoot, or just to have them in my room, it really doesn’t matter, I LOVE flowers.

So, for this big styled shoot that I planned (I will be posting this soon!!), styled, and partially photographed, I made sure there were going to be a ton of flowers. You have to put out what you want to get back, and I want flowers in my life all the time.

My go-to florist in the Reno area is Helianthus Floral Design. Camryn is the owner and mastermind behind everything and she somehow can turn all of my crazy visions into the most perfect reality. She is a floral wizard, AND she is only 18 years old. Lucky me to call her not only a preferred vendor, but a friend. 

For our styled shoot, I knew I wanted to do a big floral installation and Camryn was for it, because we both kind of agreed, we have to put out to the world what we want to get back– and we both are obsessed with the big floral installations. 

When I asked Camryn to do this project, I didn’t realize I was asking her to come and put together a big installation on her absolute busiest weekend of the summer. Once I found that out, I deemed it necessary to volunteer my services and help her prep flowers the Thursday before. She accepted, and I got to work!

There was a room full of flowers upstairs in her house because there was no more room in her flower fridges, so of course we sat in the middle of it all for some photos.

Camryn is super awesome and taught me a lot about different flowers and how they needed to be prepped for the actual design process, and then I got to get in there and start doing some of it myself. Even though I was mostly just taking leaves and thorns of stems, it was so much fun and I feel like I learned a ton. I am trying to get better at floral design before my niece’s first birthday party in October so I can make arrangements for that!

Some of my other tasks included prepping succulents + greenery to be put into bouquets and I even got to take some photos.

And that was my morning full of fun with Camryn. She is so insanely talented and I cannot wait to see all of the things she is going to accomplish in the future.
