It is winter in Las Vegas and I was the luckiest human because I had an engagement session scheduled on the most beautiful, cloudy day. Although the Las Vegas valley didn’t get snow, Mt. Charleston did and it was beautifulll.
I drove up to the mountain with Sammi and Kym and when she walked out wearing this baby blue dress, you could imagine I was obsessed. She looked like a snow princess. (She also inspired me to write a post about dressing for your photoshoot’s scenery because this look was amazingg!)
I love doing engagement sessions in Mt. Charleston during all seasons, but winter might be my new favorite. The snow had just fallen, so there was still snow on the trees, but it surprisingly was not as cold as I figured it would be (also not saying much because I was wearing a jacket and a scarf oops). Be right back, I have to go watch Narnia now!
Although there are no humans in these photos, do not be fooled— there were sooo many good ‘ole Las Vegas residents up in the mountains to see the snow. The number of children in jeans and long sleeve cotton shirts was killing me especially as these were the children jumping in and lying down in the snow. But it only snows every once in awhile out here, so we have to make it up to Mt. Charleston before it all melts, so they get some slack.
The clouds over the mountains just showed us more snow was coming (and it did).
Some of my favorite parts about engagement sessions are that I get to know my couples even better before their wedding date + we get to adventure around together. These engagement sessions generally start in one location and end somewhere different— in this case, we stayed in the Mt. Charleston area, but we drove down the mountain a few times so that we could get some different sceneries, ending in the desert.
And whenever I am able, I bring my mom’s jeep so that I can take us all off roading! Which is what we did once we were finished playing in the deeper snow.
There is a huge hill I have always wanted to shoot on top of and it was finally the perfect time to do it.
We finished up this Mt. Charleston engagement session with all of the Joshua Trees and more casual outfits.
Also, a note for all of my love birds, Mt. Charleston is a perfect place for you if you’re torn between greenery and desert because you can get both forest and desert in your photos!
As you can see, it was nothing but smiles over here with Sammi + Kym. And I am sure their wedding this June is going to be no different; I can’t wait!!!
XO
